Colette’s Story that focused on the dangers of fentanyl that aired on Telemundo won an Emmy on June 22, 2024 at the 66th Capital Emmy Awards Gala at the North Bethesda Marriott Hotel. The awarded tv segment, “In the Shadows of Fentanyl” was nominated under the categorySocietal Concerns -Long Form Content. Telemundo interviewed Elena Suarez and produced a segment on Colette’s Story for their program Línea Directa. It was recently nominated for a National Capital Emmy of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences in the category “Societal Concerns”.
The segment translated to English is called “In the Shadows of Fentanyl”. The 66th Capital Emmy Awards will be held June 22nd at the North Bethesda Marriott Hotel and Conference Center. For more information and nominations, please refer to link below.

MCPS Initiative on Prevention in Schools
MCPS held a press conference about Opioids Overdose focusing on fentanyl on January 19, 2023 triggered by the latest overdose of a 15 years old MCPS student. The Superintendent of MCPS schools, the Chief of Police and the States Attorney General for MD were present, among other community leaders. Elena Suarez represented S.O.U.L. stressed the importance of prevention at home and in the schools, as well as the need for long term and involuntary treatment with compassionate care for users. Since then many of our moms have talked to PTSA meetings in the area.
